The Big Lake

2017-18. Oil on canvas board. 11" x 14"

A little painting of my elder daughter, Rachel (when she was a toddler), walking on the sand and attempting to splash her feet in Lake Michigan, with the aid of my father who was trying to keep his shoes from getting wet. Although a recent painting, it is based on some photos I shot back in 1997 at Thorne Swift Nature Preserve in Harbor Springs, Michigan.

I signed and dated in in the fall of 2017, but after staring at it for several months, I went back and worked on it some more in 2018. Hopefully it's finally finished!
