Game packaging artwork concepts

1998. Goauche. 5¼" x 3½"

These are gouache sketches done for a small Minnesota company that imported comic books and manufactured board games. They asked me to submit some sketches for the cover of a game they were developing, but ultimately they went a different direction. Oh well. Still, I had fun painting them.

Gouache, by the way, is opaque watercolor. It is commonly used to make preliminary sketches for oil paintings because it's water-based and dries fast, but since it is also opqaque, it can be built-up like oil.
