Love In the 90s

1993. Watercolor & ink. 5½" x 8½"

The Kiss
The Kiss by Auguste Rodin.

This is the second version of a piece I originally did in 1989. During the 80s the emergence of AIDS and the prevalence of STDs became huge stories. There was a lot of talk about “safe sex” and “safer sex.” You might say that this is the “Safest Sex.”

The piece of course is a parody of Auguste Rodin’s sculpture The Kiss, a personal favorite.
